Super awesome fun British Cheese

We've been constantly trying to expand our repertoire of UK and Irish cheeses. Right now we've got a couple of really nice ones in both our cases.

Kirkham's Lancashire--Cheesemonger Song describes this cheese as "fluffy" which I have to say is a fairly apt description. Light, almost with a yogurty tang this is a wonderful summer cheese. Throw this on top of a burger instead of cheddar and you have the perfect combination. Make sure you ask one of us about the 3 day curd process used to make this cheese. Neat-o.

Appleby's Cheshire--Moist, flaky, and the last of the raw milk cheshires.

Hawes Wensleydale--Wallace and Gromit's favorite cheese. Oh, and totally delicious. Great for sandwiches or snacking.

Why Organic Is Not Always Better

Folks can be so dogmatic at times. Or we get overwhelmed and just want to make the right decisions but aren't always sure how. I saw this item at Target and wondered how many people bought it thinking "Yup, I'm doing something good buying organic."

How long until they come out with organic Twinkies?

People are always asking us why we don't carry more organic cheeses. This is my response.

Aren't you worried about the recession?

Lots of folks have been commenting on our decision to open a new business in the midst of the "great recession". I'd say just about every other customer that comes by asks us how business has been. For the record, we're not offended by people asking. We appreciate that the neighborhood in St Paul (and Minneapolis, for that matter) really wants to see us succeed.

So I was heartened by this short blurb on the NY Times website. On the pessimistic side it seems we have about even odds of making it for five years. On the optimistic side it appears that our odds of making it are the same no matter the state of the economy.

Oh, and business has been just fine--thanks to all of the incredible, supportive customers who have been coming by. We hope to see you all for the next five years and many many more beyond that.
